12 signs you’re a free spirit
Do you ever wonder if you’re a free spirit? Have others told you so? Being a free spirit is more than a catchphrase. It’s about living without fear, without limits, doing what you want when you want, and doing what makes you happy. It’s about valuing yourself enough to live your life in a way that makes sense to you without concern for other people’s judgment.
1. Freedom above all
Freedom without enforced routines is the life-source of the free spirit. Freedom to set your own rules about how you spend your time and who you spend it with. Freedom to be honest about what makes you happy and to follow your heart.
2. Gratitude for the life we’ve been given
Gratitude is an important component of happiness and helps people feel positive, handle adversity, and improve health. Free spirits understand that without gratitude it’s easier to focus on what we don’t have and that detracts from the preciousness of the moment.
3. Opportunities are all around
Free spirits think outside the box, and develop creative solutions to life’s problems. In fact, you can call free spirits life’s problem-solvers.
Because free spirits rarely follow the crowd, decisions can be unconventional and may not make sense to others but there’s always a thoughtful meaning behind them.
5. Learning includes much more than information-gathering
Free sprits love to learn and love even more to experience. But if the experience isn’t satisfying they’ll look for something more interesting and start the learning process all over again.
6. Day dreaming for what you want is more than a daily occurrence
When you focus on what you want with a clear and honest intention you begin to develop the skills to meet your goals. Free spirits understand the importance of controlling the thoughts they send out to the Universe.
7. Time can become meaningless
Not actually meaningless but free spirits often get lost in the passage of time. I often work through the night writing a new blog post or learning how to use some new technology I installed. Many times in the last few weeks I finish the task at hand at 5 or 6am, walk to my favorite all night café for an early breakfast, and then sleep until noon or 1pm.
8. The fewer commitments the better
Living like a free spirit means calling the shots and doing your own thing. Having lots of commitments can be inconsistent with that concept. The idea is to put the commitments you’ve made to yourself at the front of the list.
9. Never afraid of a challenge
We thrive on challenges, just test us. Free spirits consider every challenge to be a learning experience and an opportunity for a new adventure. Challenges aren’t always fun, but there’s always a way to handle them.
10. Small space frustration
Free spirits love to be out in nature, smelling the flowers, walking our dogs in the park, sharing adventures with friends. We get our inspiration from nature and from the journey of those we care about.
11. The importance of supportive relationships
Conversations come easily to free spirits. We love spending time with the people who understand us, and often our way of living positively affects our friends. These relationships energize us.
12. Are we self-confident? You know we are
When I walk down the street wearing my headband, 3 thick hemp bracelets on each wrist, long jeweled boho earrings, a super thick hemp necklace, and a long flowing brightly colored dress people look, some smile, some nod, others say they like my style. I know I’m different and dancing to the beat of my own drum. I love the attention and I especially love how good it feels to be acknowledged for living my truth.
