Focus on where you’re going and the car will take care of itself

I remember taking driving lessons when I was young. During one noteworthy lesson the winding road ahead appeared to weave and curve as we approached. In a panic I said to my driving instructor something like, “OMG, look at that winding road, how am I gonna manage that?”

He calmly replied, “Focus on where you’re going and the car will take care of itself.” And of course it did.

What I didn’t realize at that time was the impact my instructor’s words would have on every thought I’ve ever had, every decision I’ve ever made, and everything I’ve ever done since then.

I’m at the very beginning of understanding how the magic of tuning into oneself translates into action.  To say I’ve seen and experienced it seems unbelievable to some and to others the concept isn’t so foreign.

Thoughts create action. Nothing can come to you unless you summon it through persistent thought.

Many people know this and use meditation, yoga, vision boards to focus on what they want and give gratitude for what they have. What they don’t focus on are the things they don’t want and the things they don’t have. They train their minds to focus on the positive with the same tenacity athletes use to train their bodies.

Success doesn’t just happen without putting in the work. I’ve spent too many years defending the status quo when I should have been changing and redefining it.

And so, my focus has changed and the horizon looks sunny and clear. I’m going to focus on where I’m going and let the car take care of itself. About a month ago, before any of this happened, I bought a new pair of polarized sunglasses with rose-colored lenses. Perfect for driving that car! I have to believe that on some level I knew change was right around the corner.
