Hibernation: It’s not just about hiding from the world
Hibernation: To pass the winter in a torpid or resting state… Merriam-Webster Dictionary
Always one to go against the grain, is it any wonder I am going into hibernation at the approach of summer? For me hibernation means rebirth, and the opportunity to start again. I am at a crossroads in my life. Do I turn left or right? Do I go forward or back? Is my life in focus or is it a blur? These are rhetorical questions because only I can answer them.
And so as summer approaches I’m gathering the bits and pieces of myself to build a nest where I can develop, grow and come alive again with a different mindset towards the future and with the past securely stored away. To be clear, my past is the foundation of who I am today. But it will no longer be a hitching post. Instead it will become my guidepost.
The past will no longer command me. It will no longer stop me. It will no longer define me.
I’m in the midst of change and it’s exciting and exhilarating. It’s kind of tingly and curious and fills me with energy and hope. I’m throwing off the old persona and the woman who lived behind it and will emerge from hibernation pointed towards the future, appreciating all the good that this glorious world has to offer. The past will guide me, it will warn me, it will remind me and in the end it will set me free.
